Historical or philosophical novel? On genre specifics of L. Pirandello’s novel “The Old and the Young”

The article attempts to consider L. Pirandello’s novel “The Old and the Young” in the context of evolution of the Italian historical novel in order to fi nd out if it can be regarded as a historical novel. The novel which is in many ways the writer’s homage to the Verist Tradition is also represented in relation to Pirandello’s aesthetic views in order to provide an in-depth analysis of a peculiar character of the historicism which transpires in its main ideas.
